Home Aide Services in Walpole, MA

While retirement is often referred to as The Golden Years, it doesn’t always feel that way for seniors experiencing inherent signs of aging, such as diminishing eyesight, limited mobility or health conditions that make it impossible to remain independent.

Fortunately, home aide services allow seniors to age-in-place safely, comfortably and with the freedom to participate in their favorite social activities, hobbies, and outings.

Home aides provide tremendous support for senior clients, ranging from companionship and housekeeping assistance to errand running, meal planning and help with transportation. All of this is done without the need for a traumatic move into an assisted living facility – and saves thousands of dollars per year when compared with facility-based senior care.

All of the services are provided by North River Home Care’s licensed home aides. These are designed to keep seniors independent and feeling good about themselves – at home, surrounded by the people, pets, and belongings they love.

Companionship Care in Walpole

Never underestimate the power of socialization and human interaction. Countless studies prove regular social interaction slows down the progress of cognitive decline and significantly reduces seniors’ risk of loneliness and depression.

We tailor companionship services to address the needs and desires of our clients. Reading, board/card games, listening to music, dancing, taking walks or hikes, transporting them to bingo, bunco, church, women’s/men’s groups – all are glimpses of what our home aides offer to keep seniors living life to the fullest.

Dementia & Alzheimer’s Care in Walpole

If your loved one suffers from dementia or Alzheimer’s, home aides support the ins-and-outs of daily life that get lost in the shuffle as cognitive decline progresses.

Memory care for those with dementia ensures clients eat regularly and with respect to their nutritional needs, and that they take prescription medication and supplements as instructed.

We’ll also help out with:

  • Housekeeping & laundry
  • Transportation
  • Encouraging their favorite hobbies & activities
  • Utilize gait supervision & other safety protocols so seniors can move and exercise safely
  • Feeding & toileting

Personalized dementia home care services help those with Alzheimer’s or dementia remain in the comfort and security of home for as long as possible.

Transportation & Travel Companionship in Walpole

Giving up the keys doesn’t mean the end of independence, it just requires a shift in perspective. Securing personal transportation services allows seniors to get out and about as often as they like – to run errands (or have the errands run for them) and to visit friends and family.

Driving services are most often used to get to:

  • Long-standing meetings, luncheons, and group functions
  • Their favorite community-based activities, and events
  • Routine medical & dental exams
  • Anywhere else they want to go!

Light Housekeeping, Laundry & Meal Preparation in Walpole

Home aides also provide numerous housekeeping, home organization, and home safety modifications, and also oversee the completion of larger home maintenance items by using local, licensed professionals.

Housekeeping and maintenance services include:

  • Laundry & linen service
  • Routine light cleaning
  • Pet care
  • Grocery shopping & meal preparation
  • Minor home safety and organizational modifications

Home Aides – Working In Tandem With Home Health Care Professionals

Home aides cannot legally provide home health care services – such as administering medications, wound care, administering injections or IVs, etc. These items fall under the category of home health care.

However, our home care aides frequently synchronize work with home health care providers – providing a seamless interplay that ensures all of our client’s – and their patient’s – needs are well cared for.

My 94 year old mother returned to her apartment in September 2024 after a fall and time in the hospital and in rehabilitation.    North River Home Care was recommended to us by a person we trusted.  Our experience with North River was excellent from start to finish.  Management was highly responsive, from our first call, and constantly monitored my mother's care.  The aides who were with my mother were all caring, and did a terrific job helping my mother maintain her dignity while assisting with necessary details of life.  My mother responded to this support and gradually grew stronger.  With time we were able to slowly reduce aides services from 24 hours daily to the point that no further assistance was required.  Over a month has passed since then and my mother continues to do very well.  This recovery was in great part the fruit of the caring help and gentle assistance North River provided to her, bringing her back to pretty much as she was and once again walking long distances (no not running but she never did).  .  We are all extremely happy with the support she received from North River for which we remain most grateful.

After our father had experienced multiple hospital stays, we wanted to avoid another rehab facility. We decided to move him back into his assisted living community with a 24hr caregiver. Jen Davis was compassionate and easy to work with. The caregivers were all wonderful, especially Cheryl and Dourina. We used NRHC for 3 weeks and highly recommend this team to other families looking for 24hr care.

The North River Team was excellent while dealing with my parents care. Our Care Advisor Mia met with us and went over all they can do and gave me frequent updates. The home aids were wonderful in dealing with my mother who can be difficult and helped my Dad run errands as well as with hygiene and self-care. When the time comes for more help with my parents home care we will definitely be contacting North River Home Care.

Hiring North River Home Care came at a difficult time. My wife was dying and came home in hospice care. Having good and reliable Home Care assistance was essential to providing round the clock attendance at my wife's bedside. Julia Hawkins was North River's Client Service Manager. She was attentive and helpful describing how Home Care would work when we met in our living room. She was easy to reach by phone subsequently. My wife's home stay lasted two days. The North River Home Care team was here when my wife arrived from the hospital and there were three sequential aides with my wife at all times. My wife died the next day while Luisa, North River's Home Care aide, was caring for her. After the hospice nurse left Luisa provided the care my wife needed allowing my sons, her sister, and me time to sit and grieve together. Luisa was extraordinary. She was there but sensitive to our time and place at my wife's bedside. Luisa's experience and knowledge about care and dying were invaluable. After my wife had died and we had said our good byes Luisa prepared her for the undertakers and allowed us time to be with her for the last time. While our time with North River Home Care was very short, the care and service were necessary, important, and very helpful. I would recommend anyone looking for this kind of support to reach out to North River Home Care.
